The main purpose of this project is to develop online applications for learning Nobiin. NLS is now working with an expert linguist from Georgetown University/ department of linguistics on these Developing language learning tools that complement existing Nobiin language courses. Dr. Bertille Baron, PhD Student from Georgetown University is working with NLS team in this project. The first product of this corporation has seen the light, which is the beginner-level course for Nobiin language using Memrise, which is a popular language learning app used by 50 million people in 189 countries to learn more than 2000 languages in a self-learning platform.
This beginner-level course focuses on basic Nobiin vocabulary. The vocabulary included here reflects the Nobiin dialect spoken the Sokkot area, located in Northern Sudan (Lower Nubia), between the land of Mahas (North of Dologla region) and the Wadi Halfa region. The Sokkot dialect is assumed to be largely mutually intelligible with other Nobiin dialects. This course contains twenty-four levels, and each level contains audio recordings to teach the learners pronunciation of words. Memrise app also generates random drills to test the level of students in grasping the skills.
To access the beginner-level you must:
